Poached Egg Grilled Cheese


  • 2 slices sourdough bread
  • Butter
  • Cheddar cheese
  • 1 poached egg

Step 1: Thinly slice the cheese into strips and keep one square slice (this will make sense soon).

Step 2: Place one piece of buttered bread butter-side down on your grill or frying pan.  Place the strips of cheese on the bread creating a type of well for your poached egg to lay in.  Gently lay your egg into the well you have created and place a larger square piece of cheese over-top of the egg.  Place the other piece of buttered bread (butter side up) on top of the sandwich.  Resist all urges to press down on the sandwich as you do not want the egg yolk to break.  When the cheese starts to melt and the bottom of the bread is grilled to your liking, very carefully flip the sandwich, making sure not to break the yolk.  Grill until the second piece is finished to your liking.

Step 3: Once you have taken the sandwich off the grill, cut in half down the middle and see the yolk drip out of the middle of the sandwich you have created.
